“The Attack” is a short story I wrote from October 13 through 16, 2017, about a librarian who takes a holiday in his family’s summer cabin after the breakup of the United States has rendered the area unsafe. This man, aware of the danger, decides to pass a couple weeks there to get away from it all, armed and supplied, prepared for anything but not expecting too much trouble; after all, the cabin has already been ransacked. Surely the bandits will not return.
